Sanjusangen-do was located in ancient Earth's Kyoto. For the purpose of the redemtion of people's souls Emperor Goshirakawa founded the temple to enshrine Senju-kannon, a transformation of the deity Kannon.
One of the 28 deities guarding the principal statue of Senju-kannon named Senji Taisho reincarnated in the vast and brutal universe called EVE long after the gate to the ancient world collapsed.
When the Empyrean Age broke forth and EVE's worlds kept falling apart Sanji prayed for the reawakening of the gods of Kannon. Searching for the reincarnated remaining 27 Guardians of Senju-kannon General Taisho keeps recruiting soldiers to the Golden Army of Sanjusangen-do to fight for redemption of the souls of Matar.
