Description
HOGWARTS OF EVE [HOGWT] - the school, and the executor of the alliance
"It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
WHAT THIS IS
New Eden measures you by skill points. They train at a fixed rate, cannot be hurried, and a pilot of fifteen years will always have more than you. Almost every corporation here asks to see that number before it asks your name.
We do not. We think the choices are the interesting part.
Hogwarts of EVE is the school itself and the executor corporation of the alliance. It is not, mostly, where you should apply. There are four houses, and you want one of those.
THE FOUR HOUSES
Gryffindor Amarr combat, sites, missions, the frontline
Hufflepuff Minmatar mining, industry, hauling, building
Ravenclaw Gallente exploration, scanning, hacking, wormholes
Slytherin Caldari the market, contracts, and the sharp end
One hundred places in each. No skill point minimum, no interview, no application that reads like a job, and Alpha clones are welcome in all four - rather the point.
HOW TO CHOOSE
Read what the four founders have written and pick the one that sounds like you, not the one that sounds impressive. Godric admits his house is the worst for making money, Helga that mining is dull, Rowena that she flies deliberately into trouble, Salazar that his is mostly patience. Believe all four.
EVE is four or five entirely different games wearing one client, and nobody can tell in advance which one they will love. So if you choose wrongly you have lost nothing. You move house and keep every friend you have made. Nobody is ever asked to leave for discovering what they actually enjoy.
WHAT WE ASK
Only two things, and neither is a schedule. Help when a housemate asks, if you are online and able. And be straight with your own - ruthless with strangers if your house inclines that way, but straight with the people in your own common room.
No attendance requirement, no mandatory operation, no spreadsheet of your activity. Real life wins every time, and nobody owes an explanation for being away.
WHAT WE ARE NOT
We are not a rich alliance. No ship replacement, no free hulls, nobody handing out ISK. Be wary of anyone who offers a brand new pilot both, because that is precisely how recruitment scams open.
What is here is company, people who remember being exactly where you are, and the unglamorous knowledge that stops a new pilot losing a ship for a reason nobody warned them about.
Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it. That part is free, and it always will be.
THE HONEST PART
You will lose ships. Everybody does, permanently, including pilots with fifteen years behind them. It is the only game I know where the losses are the story worth telling.
Choose your house. Then undock - it does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
