I've played EVE a long time. It all started in 2005. Here's what I've learned:

1. Keep it simple.
2. Don't forget the cheep ships.
3. Enjoy the privilage of skill, don't take it for granted.
4. Find mature EVE players to team up with.
5. Avoid the EVE obsessed.
6. Avoid stress. If it isn't fun, don't do it.
7. Relax and don't take it all so seriously.
