Universal Mining Inc [sic] was founded on 2 April, 2007 by Dangerous Daswe as a joint enterprise with Mining and Communications Director Sar Ferredj, Security Director Fish Evans, Field Captain Arctanis, and Industry Director Elii Witherworth. The stated intent of the corporation was to do hi-sec PVE and mining operations. UMI was joined by industrial consultants Hard Edge, Riven Gundrik, and Doc Trebor (R.I.P.). The home base of operations was in the Agal system, Genesis region, an ideal home for a quiet, laid-back carebear corporation learning the ropes. UMI was tried by several periods of intense war.

Fall 07: UMI assisted her allies in Genesis by kicking out LimeStar \u2013 a corporation of noobs \u2013 who wanted to overrun our home and make it theirs. Unbeknownst to LimeStar members, their CEO kworld was a pirate who used his 200-member corp as a cover for darker operations.

Spring 08: UMI chased off a double-boxing griefer named Flossing, declaring war on his 2-toon corp. His main quit the corp, and UMI suffered almost 6 weeks of war decs thereafter. 5 corps decced, but only 3 of them managed any battles with UMI: Infortunatus Eventus (\xe9lite merc force now disbanded), Noir. (who took down 9 UMI combat vessels), and Interimo (pirates from Genesis low-sec who wanted some WTs). UMI also suffered from the treason of Freight Train, who allegedly stole our POS from our corp hangar amidst the distraction of war. The Forged Dominion alliance was founded during these wars. After the 5th war with Interimo, we also lost our friend Doc Trebor to suicide. Doc told us he made an agreement with the enemy to build them ships in exchange for protection of F-D ships in low-sec.

After these wars, UMI split and almost died. Arctanis, concerned about the efficacy of leadership, was forced to resign when DD stripped him of his rank and privileges. He took the majority of the corp's A-Wing with him to form Arcana Imperii. Most of these soldiers later went on to INEVE and other well-known EVE organisations. DD resigned on 11 June, and was replaced by Sar Ferredj. Marcus Tarrow was promoted to A-Wing Captain. When DD resigned, he held onto the majority of shares of UMI. Sar bought the shares back, though it now appears this was all part of a plot to defraud UMI shareholders.

Summer & Fall 08: the alliance expanded due to an aggressive campaign against several mercenary corporations run by the Privateers. We expanded anti-pirate operations in low-sec and anti-griefer operations in hi-sec. Many new corps joined the F-D during this period, and they fought honourably alongside UMI. There were only a handful of casualties during this time in spite of 3 weeks of war: 4 low-sec combat losses, 1 wartime loss of a covetor, and a failed assassination attempt on Jehan Markow's retriever.

Just after New Years' Day 2009: Sar Ferredj resigned and quit, and appointed Jehan Markow as the new CEO. At the end of the month, Jehan took administrative leave. Within 2 days, Sar had given his controlling stake to a noob alt who had been recruited by A-Wing Lt. Secarut Arimot and called a CEO election. The corp's officers secured corp assets in 3 regions, setting up a shadow corporation and transferring the assets to the new corporation. Ianov Saraban spent hours setting up offices identical to those of the old UMI. The only assets lost to DD and Sar Ferredj were some investors' BPOs we had inadvisedly locked down.

The members of UMI wanted revenge, forming militia corps for wardecs. Even Arctanis came back and had the honour of popping DD in his Nighthawk. Us and our friends formed Militant Mermen, SolarEx, SPEXR (now all in BSA), Tachyon Tactical Systems and Big Chubby (in ETG), and also Sol Harvestor. Our respect for the dreams of the average nublet coupled with a willingness to lend a hand or a few million isk has grown a devoted following in spite of our failures.
