Minor JumpDistance Calculation Bug Fixed

September 9th, 2009

Calculations in eve are sometimes wired. Today I got the information that a pilot got stuck on his route because of a rounding error in the jump distance.

Example:

Maximum Jump Range (Pilot skills included): 7.875 ly
The calculated real distance: 7.87484372076 ly

My jump planer said yes, eve client said no. Wired math to be honest.

Anyway:
I tweaked some internal calculations, recreated my jump graph and removed now outdated, bugged caches. Maybe CCP can tell me how they’re doing the calculation.

I hope you won’t get stuck anymore. Fly safe!

Thanks Wollari! Much appreciated….. Great work once again!

Keep in Mind that also the position of the ship and the cyno is not always in the middle of the system.

Perhaps the system center to system center calculations say yes, but the objects are on opposite position in the systems with can make a small but sufficent longer distance.

    Anyway,
Great Work Job with the Jumptool!

  3. I wasn’t sure how to get this to you, but I have a request on the Jump Range tool. Please add a button to show all systems in range regardless of sec status. This would be very helpful for planning Jump Freighter routes, to see what high sec systems are in range of a low sec/null sec system.

Thans Kirith for your ideas. With your idea, I added a feature to the jump range tool today to help planning your trip. I won’t list the highsec systems, because it’s would just fill up the list with too much garbage, but I added an Icon that will show you if a solarsystem has a connection to a highsec system. You can even set this as filter to only list systems with a highsec connection.

I’ll write a blog post and please tell me what you think about it.
